Thanks for your support this year
Looking back at 2015
We were thrilled at the success of the David Hunter Memorial Lecture with guest speaker Stan Grant. He raised a lot of challenging issues in his speech, and we look forward to his contribution to debates about identity and reconciliation through his new role with Guardian Australia – see his latest article here.
Other events during the year were a Politics in the Pub event with The Australia Institute and Oxfam, looking at the Close the Gap campaign, and the screening of the ANTaR justice reinvestment videos at Manning Clark House, with guest speaker Mary Spiers Williams from the ANU College of Law. For more on justice issues and justice reinvestment, see the new website Change the Record, launched by a coalition of community organisations, including ANTaR.
Looking forward
A significant new exhibition has recently opened at the National Museum of Australia: Encounters. The exhibition is worth visiting to understand more about the history and heritage of this country. It features rare, early Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander objects from the British Museum. They are displayed with new objects from the Indigenous communities represented in the exhibition. It is open until 28 March, and entry is free but timed tickets are required. For more information, click here.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered to assist the activities at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy following our recent request. There will be more events taking place around 26 January. You can find out more about what is on and any assistance needed through their Facebook page.
The first ANTaR ACT committee meeting of 2016 will be on Tuesday 2 February. We have booked the Snug Room at King O’Malleys, and will meet from 6pm to 7.30. We would love you to join us to help us plan what we will be doing in 2016.. Please call Cherisse on 0449 738 901 if you would like more information or assistance to get there.
