Canberra Anzac Eve Peace Vigil, 5.30 Wed 24 April gather atop Mt Ainslie or,
if not walking, gather at Remembrance Park from about 6 pm (see this site for more details: http://www.chorusofwomen.org/whatsnew.htm)
The annual ceremonial Peace Vigil is a growing event which encompasses not only the bereavements associated with Australia's acknowledged military history, but also the continuing grief and dispossessions of Aboriginal peoples in Australia's Frontier Wars, and of war victims and refugees of conflicts throughout the world.
Start of gathering: From 5.30 pm, at top of Mt. Ainslie, for Welcome to Country at 6 p.m., singing, lighting of lanterns, and smoking ceremony of walkers as they start the lantern-lit descent down Mt. Ainslie to Remembrance Park, including a pause at the Aboriginal Memorial en route.
For others not walking: Gathering at Remembrance Park from about 6 pm., then Welcome to Country at 6.30 pm., walkers arrive from Mt. Ainslie. Several fires, some seating, hot soup available.
Commemorations, song, poetry, narrative, and smoking ceremony until about 8.30 pm.
Lantern walkers depart from Park to forecourt of War Memorial for further short ceremony and music.
About 9 pm, walkers procession down Anzac Ave to Vigil camp near lake, at foot of Avenue.
Bring warm clothing, a portable seat, and blanket and extra food and drink if required.

A guest speaker from ICV will describe their activities and needs. This will be followed by a short committee meeting.
Kooma Green School 18-20 May
Join Green Institute on the traditional lands of the Kooma people for the next Kooma Green School from 18-20 May 2013. Camp in the mulga country, explore the headwaters of the Murray Darling river system and meet the Traditional Owners. The program includes: the latest on cultural flows in the Murray Darling Basin, a report on Melbourne Water’s Kooma Water Project, food security, discussion on models of leadership, an introduction to the Guwamu Indigenous Protected Area, the money story for remote communities, and how local power is taking Australia beyond coal.
Come self-contained for camping. Bring your friends. Expect the unexpected. You’ll need to book. GI will help organise shared transport where possible.
