Gathered Together, until Sun 15 September, Gallery 5, Canberra Museum & Art Gallery CMAG’s important and growing collection of Indigenous art, including works by artists resident in the Canberra region.
Wreck Bay Community: Window to Wreck Bay Sat 29 June – Sun 25 August, Gallery 4 Canberra Museum & Art Gallery Windsongs and Waterlines – where is, what is Wreck Bay? is a Centenary of Canberra project, proudly supported by the ACT Government and the Australian Government. The exhibition, Window to Wreck Bay showcases the cultural survival of the Wreck Bay Community, the traditional owners of Jervis Bay, and explores the history and culture of the only Aboriginal Community reserve in the ACT.

Bipotaim: Stories from the Torres Strait – Exhibition until 14 September, First Australians Gallery, National Museum of Australia
Striking photographs, stories and objects about the lives, culture and identity of Torres Strait Islanders. Bipotaim means ‘before time’ in Torres Strait Creole and refers in a general way to ‘olden times’. The photographs in Bipotaim are complemented by objects from the National Museum’s Torres Strait Islander collections. Open, 10am-5pm weekdays, 9am-5pm weekends and public holidays.

Wave Hill/Canberra Exchange exhibition 2 to 13 July 2013: Kingston, Canberra, ACT
Wave Hill/CanberraExchange recognises the significant connection between the Gurindji people of Daguragu and Kalkarindji communities, whose ground‑breaking strike in the 1960s heralded the birth of the national land rightsmovement. Canberra played a significant role in this seminal moment in Australian history, as the Gurindji people and their supporters dealt with government and politicians from 1966 to 1975.

ACT Government NAIDOC Flag Raising Ceremony 10.45 am Monday 8 July Civic Square – ACT Legislative Assembly Canberra CityThe Flag Raising Ceremony is an acknowledgement by the ACT Government of the importance of NAIDOC Week and features as an official activity each year in the overall NAIDOC Week celebrations in the ACT. The Ceremony is held in conjunction with the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body and the ACT Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs.

Featuring artworks from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Probation & Parole / Community Service clients. Entry is by donation. Entry outside these hours is by prior arrangement and a light morning/afternoon tea can be organised with sufficient advance notice to SCS. Most of the works on display will be for sale. Known and respected Aboriginal artists will be exhibiting their work, as well as many other unknown, but highly talented artists. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see new works of art – and it offers the exhibitors a unique opportunity to share their work and perhaps find a path to a new career. The partners in this Exhibition (Southside Community Services Inc; ACT Correctional Services), the Exhibitors and Auswide Colleges cordially invite you to come and share.

Boomanulla Oval Sport and Recreation in partnership with Touch Football ACT is hosting a family day of amusement rides (all day), touch football clinics/games (running from 11:30am to 1:30pm) and the main event at 2:30pm the Boomanulla Raiders are taking on Binalong Brahmans in round 14 of the George Tooke shield. All ages are welcome, come on down and support the Boomanulla Raiders, play some touch footy and have a laugh on the rides!

Ready 4 Recognition is student-led Law Reform and Social Justice project at the ANU College of Law focused on delivering community legal education about the proposed referendum to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution. Our goal is to provide clear and concise information about the legal aspects of recognition and to ensure continuing momentum for a referendum within the next two years. This launch is to kickstart our campaign and also to celebrate the completion of the plain-English legal resources and website we have been developing.
